3d lighting tips and free blender project
sometimes you need less lights for your scene than you expect, not every object, every pixel should be in full light, rendering is about getting the perfect light and shadow setup, having the entire scene in full brightness usually makes your artwork look washed out and with no contrust.
lighting should have a mood and tell a story, it should highlight or hide to emphasize your story.
for this render i only used two area lights, the key light which also acts as the rim light here is IN front of the character to give him an that highlighted edge, the male model i used is not supper high detailed or high quality but because the lighting highlights his silhouette and hides his lowpoly areas, you would not be able to tell.
having a lighting setup like this helps separate the foreground and the background
