How to Setup Your Own 3D Model Generator AI
AI model generators have gotten really good at generating models — good enough that ignoring them would be to our own detriment. Tools like Rodin, Meshy, and others can produce something in just a few hours that would have taken days of manual work. That said, there's still a lot of cleanup required to make these models usable. Most pipelines tile everything into a single mesh, meaning clothes, shoes, hair and other accessories are welded onto the body. You usually don't get a T-pose unless the reference was a T-pose too, so rigging and remeshing become real issues. But despite these limitations, this technology is not something to ignore.
I wouldn't be afraid if I were an artist. What these AI generators are doing is essentially what artists who sell model libraries have been doing for years. Instead of making everything yourself, you just buy it all at once from a library like Botaniq Trees. AI agents are still nowhere near the quality you get from a well-made library like Botaniq or the City Generator. But the reason I'm making this video is for those who aren't afraid of exploring what's coming. We know the industry is changing drastically, and no one knows exactly what's going to change — but it's better to face that change familiar with the tools than not.
Like I said, there are many paid options for AI model generators, including Blender addons like AI Library, AI Painter, and others. What I know is that most Blender artists want something free and open source, and that's what we're going to talk about here. You can go with options like ComfyUI that uses a node-based system, but the installation can be complicated if you've never done it before. A much simpler way is to just tell an AI agent like OpenCode (which is free) or ChatGPT and Claude (even the free tiers work) to install ComfyUI for you. ComfyUI is still a complicated program to use, but AI agents have gotten really good at using other programs — you can just ask the agent to create a 3D model generator template for you.
