How AI Has Changed 3D
It is no longer 3D artists versus AI. It is now 3D artists using AI tools versus AI.
Textures, animations, models, buildings, landscapes, addons and even entire Geometry Nodes setups can now be created with the help of AI. You no longer have to wait for Blender developers to add a feature you desperately need. If the idea is simple enough, you can ask an AI coding agent to help you build it yourself. The artist who understands 3D and knows how to use these tools now has a completely different advantage. The real competition is no longer human skill against artificial intelligence. It is the traditional 3D workflow against a new kind of artist who can combine years of experience with tools that remove hours, days or even weeks of work.
If you watch any Pwnisher community challenge, the submitted clips are usually between five and twenty seconds long. But the breakdowns explaining how those clips were made can run for several minutes, and even those breakdowns only show the highlights. They could probably be hours long if people’s attention spans were not already struggling with two-minute videos. The actual projects often take days or even weeks to complete and render, all for a few seconds of animation.
A sequence like that can include modeling, UV unwrapping, sculpting, texturing, rigging, animation, simulation, compositing, lighting and look development. Sometimes the artist also has to design the environment, find references, create storyboards, record motion capture, clean up the animation, solve technical problems and optimize the scene so that it can actually render without crashing.
As an artist, I take pride in that process. I am usually more proud of my work when I know that I created almost every pixel on the screen. There is a special satisfaction that comes from building something from nothing and understanding every decision behind it. But the amount of work required for every project also increases the chances that the project will never be completed. You may start with an exciting idea, spend three days modeling one asset, another two days fixing the topology, and then realize that you still need an entire environment, characters, animation and lighting. That is usually when the project quietly disappears into a folder and is never opened again.
This is one of the main reasons AI is becoming so attractive. It is not only promising better images. It is promising to reduce the distance between having an idea and actually finishing it. And AI is changing 3D in a very different way from what I expected.
To understand this shift, just look at the Blender addon ecosystem. I cannot give you a scientific number, but it sometimes feels like most new addons are being made with some assistance from AI coding agents. That does not mean someone types one sentence into ChatGPT and receives a perfect commercial addon. Useful addons still require testing, Blender knowledge, interface design, bug fixing and a clear understanding of what artists actually need. But AI has dramatically lowered the barrier to entry.
A few years ago, you could have a great idea for a Blender tool and still be unable to create it because you did not understand Python or Blender’s API. Your options were to learn programming, hire a developer or wait for someone else to have the same idea. Today, you can explain the feature to a coding agent, ask it to create a basic version, test it inside Blender, paste back the errors and slowly improve it. You may not become a professional programmer overnight, but you can build tools that solve real problems in your workflow.

Cloth like this looks effortless, but underneath is collision setup, weight painting, simulation, material tuning, and dozens of tiny fixes before the fabric moves naturally instead of exploding through the body. That boring middle is exactly where models like Kimi K3 become dangerous: inspect the animation, detect clipping, adjust the Blender scene, rerun the simulation, and keep iterating. Designing the character is the fun part. Fixing the same dress for the 37th time is the job AI will take first. and i 100% agree with them,

this one caught me off guard because i dint know ai could control blender to this leve, though the materials and character design are alittle un inspired, if you switched out the assets with some well made assets prefferibly human made, you can have an epic scene but lets read what rina says in there twit,
